Is your marketing schedule busy to the point that you have so many ideas that are laying there, yet to be used or even implemented? This can be hard for some of us.
Having a well-structured marketing calendar can be the solution to helping you use all these ideas. Once you have one, don’t move what you should do today to the very next day or you may be in trouble. If you wish to avoid this pitfall, here are some tips.
Are these times not the fastest-paced times for business? If it’s a slow part of the year, you can go ahead and create your marketing plan and fit it into your calendar. Use chronological order – always start with your short-term before long-term plans.
Now that your marketing calendar is done, have a list of things that are very necessary for you to do. Examples of important things to do would be creating a design for your company’s logo. This can also include writing a press release for a brand new product.
You need a good estimation of the number of marketing plans to be implemented in a week. Can you do one? Two tasks? Can your schedule handle three tasks? Don’t bite off more than you can chew then give up on the schedule – remember to set realistic expectations.
Your schedule is sure to have some seasonal tasks that can only be done at a certain time. Be sure to schedule these things accordingly, preferably before most everything else.
You may have marketing tasks that are done on a recurring basis. You may be publishing a monthly magazine or newsletter. If you have recurring tasks, take note of these and schedule them accordingly.
Once all these special items are scheduled, go to the rest of your list. Urgent items, as discussed earlier, need to be scheduled first. Everything else should follow, ending with the least important.
As you can see, creating a marketing calendar isn’t as hard as it looks. After the completion of your calendar, make sure you have a system for following these tasks. A marketing calendar keeps you organized and keeps you away from the all-too-common error of most businessmen – waiting till the last minute to market their business. Best of all, this makes even the slower times of business go faster.
